Today's meditation:Thanks to #enshitification I am running more cloud services for myself and my family. There was a time when I wouldn't trust my own solo efforts more than that of the big cloud vendors. But with their recent outages and their announcements about going all-in on #ai #vibecoding - well - that time has passed.Today, I'm actually pretty reliant on code I wrote, for myself, in my daily life (without #ai, in these cases).I guess that's fine, I am quite good at coding. And open source contributors have democratized a great deal of what it takes to run a web service! Thanks folks! But I still feel that my efforts over a couple of weekends *should not* result in a dramatically better experience than a paid full time team working for years. And yet - here we are. My honest judgement is clear in my CodeBerg repositories. I write and run quick simple code to replace things that I used a shared public web service for 20 years ago.Incidentally, I don't own much tech stock, today. These tech teams *can* do better work. But their leadership's priorities aren't allowing them to.
