Whilst not the original library of Alexandria, please read up on the destruction of the Serapeum daughter library (established already in ~230 BC and still had the largest collection of books/scrolls in the city throughout the 4th century) and bishop Theophilus' direct involvement in these events. This act widely counts as one of the major triumphs of Christianity over paganism. Related, you might also read up about the brutal religious hate murder and dismembering of Hypatia (one of the scholars at the Serapeum/Mouseion) by a mob of Christian fanatics 14 years later... I'm sorry to inform you that hate, intolerance, fanaticism, sexism and brutality have always been part of that religion!
