Musicians of the Fediverse, what are the best ear training apps/websites you know? Targeting interval and chord recognition at the moment although I'll be interested in rhythm at some point too.
- Web-based or Android
- Doesn't have to be free, I'll pay for a good app...
- ...that's not full of AI crap.Thank you

#music #EarTraining@joannanewsomsuperfan@mas.to it sounds like something like this is super helpful for students and amateur musicians alike.
As a conductor of wind band music and a practicing software developer this is also something I'd put together.
Unfortunately I don't know how to make apps, and I'd lean on AI for it, otherwise it would take too much time for "something interesting". I use a local open weight AI that runs on my own electricity.
There are lots of ways to make beautiful things with AI assistance that don't involve sending your data to Anthropic or OpenAI.

#music #EarTrainingThis one is really good on iOS. Not sure about the Android version but worth a try.

#music #EarTrainingsorry to be a total luddite but what's wrong with listening to and then playing with records? Why require some enshittified tracking app at all?
Jamey Abersold said he wished he hadn't learned the way his books teach, but rather should have just poked around to play whatever tunes he already knew on his instrument, and then practice them in all keys. Some may remember this as Meredith Wilson's "think method" from Music Man, and I will assert, of the old "Masters", most began their learning this way.
That said, Louis Armstrong was taught solfege in kindergarten, which was very smart of his teacher as kids can only learn perfect pitch until about the age of 8.

#music #EarTraining@Joannanewsomsuperfan I don't know an app sorry, I hope you find one. But I can't help but feel the best ear training is playing the chords and intervals personally.
I don't know whether you're asking as a musician or someone new to music analysis in general, so apologies if my reply is redundant.

@Joannanewsomsuperfan if you don't want an answer, don't ask.

#music #EarTraining@Joannanewsomsuperfan looks like there are a few anki decks for interval recognition. When I learned, I studied intervals by playing them to myself on a keyboard, then got together with a buddy to quiz each other (which would be anki's role)

@teledyn sorry (not sorry) for jumping in, but you didn't provide an answer at all.
What you did was to chastise OP for asking for an app, and 'splaining that the requirements would be fulfilled by listening to songs and mimicking them -- which they aren't, as a dedicated teaching app/site will provide _which_ intervals, chords etc are used, something most people won't know just by listening to a record even when they can mimic the playing.
So just don't be obnoxious to strangers.
