    I recently got this lovely polymer Irish #Flute. This is an F or 3/4 flute. The full-size flute (in D) has become the standard for traditional Irish #Music, but the 3/4 was quite popular for band and solo usage, and can still be heard here and there.
    Michael Cronnolly asked me to let people know they can contact him to get both keyed and keyless F flutes, which he usually doesn't list in his shop. M&E Flutes is a family business from Killasser, county Mayo. #Mastodoine https://flutes.ie/

      @cassana

      i was a bit skeptical of polymer flutes (probably from seeing the cheap woodwinds schools seem to always buy) but after seeing and playing some well made open hole flutes and shakuhachi flutes, i was really impressed. much less fussy care and great sound/intonation/playability when done well.

        @paul_ipv6 Me too, but absolutely… I was recently talking to a friend about it, and "much less fussy care and great sound/intonation/playability when done well" sums it up nicely. Unfortunately there's still a lot of flimsy plastic crap out there that likely ends up being thrown away within years, if not months. This flute is made from medical-grade polymer and feels very solid.

          @cassana

          my favorite tinwhistles tend to be the composite polymer burke whistles i have and i have a shakuhachi flute with lovely tone. i've had an M&E rudall and rose flute for a while; i should be playing it more.

          we will avoid discussing my not needing another flute but being really tempted by these. 🙂

            @paul_ipv6 That’s right… You don’t need another flute! 🤐
            (Sotto voce) Well, unless you love the keys of F and Bb, which I totally do. Hence…

              @cassana Oh interesting, mine in D doesn't have threads, or rings. But then, I got it in 2002, so things are bound to have changed. They are indeed amazing instruments. Highly recommend them.

                You had to remind me of an itch that is the Nicholas Bras' membrane clarinet.

                  @klegdixal @paul_ipv6 I’m absolutely not here to make that *itch* worse for you, but I’ve just seen an email about him adding an alto membrane clarinet, plus a drone version of that one. I need to go check for sound clips!
                  PS. I like the modular triple flute kit I have by him, though he’s updated that one lately too.

                      @klegdixal @paul_ipv6 😄 Figured you might have… I’ve heard it too now, and I like the drone with extensions; might be tempted myself.
